Frequently asked questions
Where are my moments stored?
Only on your phone, in an encrypted database. We have no server and cannot see, read or recover your journal.
Does Lifya need an internet connection?
No. Everything works offline, including transcribing voice notes and finding place names.
How do I back up my journal?
Open Settings, choose Backup, set a password and export the file. Save it somewhere safe that is not your phone, for example a computer or a cloud drive you trust. Lifya does not include its data in iCloud Backup or Google backup, so this file is your backup.
How do I move to a new phone?
Export a backup on your old phone, copy the file to your new phone, install Lifya and choose Restore from backup. Backups work between iPhone and Android.
I forgot my backup password. Can you help?
Unfortunately not. The password is never sent to us and there is no way to reset it. Without the password, the backup cannot be opened by anyone, including us.
How do I lock a moment?
Open the moment and choose Lock. Locked moments are hidden from widgets, reminders, On this day and search until you unlock them with Face ID, Touch ID, your fingerprint or your device passcode.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete any moment from its detail screen, or delete everything in Settings, Delete all data. Uninstalling the app also removes all of its data from your phone. Because we hold no copy of your data, there is nothing to delete on our side.
Why does Lifya ask for camera, microphone, location or photo access?
Only to capture photos, videos and voice notes, to attach a place name to a moment, and to bring photos you choose into your journal. Each permission is asked only when you first use the feature, and you can turn it off at any time in your phone settings.
